Patient Case Studies Group 6

SR-PROBLEM LIST

  • Underbite caused by a backward positioned small upper jaw.
  • Open bite caused by excessive downward vertical growth of the back portion of the upper jaw.
  • Crossbite caused by a backward positioned small upper jaw.
  • Paranasal deficiency associated with a backward positioned small upper jaw.
  • Lip incompetence.
  • Procumbent lower left secondary to a forward positioned lower jaw.
  • Small chin.
  • Defect front lower gum tissue which requires pre-orthodontic soft tissue grafting.
Pre-Op

Post-Op

PRE AND POST-SURGICAL ORTHODONTICS BY DR. JAMES SCIARETTA.

SURGICAL TREATMENT PLAN
  • Upper jaw advancement to correct a backward positioned small upper jaw and associated paranasal deficiency.
  • Superiorly reposition the upper jaw to correct the open bite and lip incompetence associated with the excessive downward vertical growth of the back portion of the upper jaw.
  • Forward autorotation of the lower jaw.
  • Lower jaw setback to compensate for lower jaw autorotation.
  • Genioplasty advancement to bring chin point back to its original position and establish esthetic chin contour.

SS-PROBLEM LIST

  • Crossbite caused by the severely inadequate width of the upper jaw.
  • Overbite caused by a small mandible which is backwardly positioned.
  • Outwardly turned lower lip resulting from the chronic trauma when upper front teeth repetitively hit against an abnormally positioned lower lip.
  • Small chin.
Pre-Op

Post-Op

PRE AND POST-SURGICAL ORTHODONTICS BY DR. EDWARD DONOHUE.

SURGICAL TREATMENT PLAN

Stage 1 of surgical treatment involves correcting the severely inadequate width of the upper jaw with surgical-orthodontic expansion of the maxillary arch.

Stage 2 surgical treatment involves correcting the severe overbite associated with a backward positioned small lower jaw by the advancement of the lower jaw using rigid fixation.

ST-PROBLEM LIST

  • Open bite caused by the vertically excessive downward growth of the upper jaw.
  • Long facial appearance, lip incompetence, and gummy smile also caused by the vertically excessive downward growth of the upper jaw.
  • Inflammation of the gum tissue of the upper front teeth which is caused by the chronic air exposure due to the vertically excessive downward growth of the upper jaw.
  • Underbite caused by a forward positioned lower jaw.
  • Small chin.
Pre-Op

Post-Op

PRE AND POST-ORTHODONTICS BY DR. BRAD WATTERWORTH.

SURGICAL TREATMENT PLAN

  • Superiorly reposition the upper jaw to correct the open bite as well as correct the associated lip incompetence, gummy smile, and long facial appearance associated with the excessive vertical downward growth of the upper jaw.
  • Forward autorotation of the lower jaw to close the open bite as well as reduce lip strain and lip incompetence.
  • Lower jaw setback to correct the underbite as well as compensate for the forward autorotation of the lower jaw.
  • Genioplasty advancement to create esthetic chin shape as well as help reduce lip strain.

JCM-PROBLEM LIST

  • Open bite caused by the excessive vertical downward growth of the back portion of the upper jaw.
  • Long facial appearance caused by the excessive vertical downward growth of the back portion of the upper jaw.
  • Crossbite caused by the inadequate width of the upper jaw.
  • Mild lip incompetence and lip strain due to the excessive vertical downward growth of the back portion of the upper jaw.
  • The abnormal wearing of the back molars as these are the only teeth which can chew.
Pre-Op

Post-Op

PRE AND POST-SURGICAL ORTHODONTICS BY DR. JAY REICHELD.

SURGICAL TREATMENT PLAN
  • Superiorly reposition the upper jaw to correct the open bite as well as treat the lip incompetence and long facial appearance associated with the excessive vertical downward growth of the back portion of the upper jaw.
  • Surgically widen the upper jaw to eliminate the crossbite.
  • Forward autorotation of the lower jaw to close the open bite as well as bring the chin point and lower lip forward.

GG_PROBLEM LIST

  • Underbite caused by a forward positioned large lower jaw and a backward positioned upper jaw.
  • Crossbite caused by a forward positioned large lower jaw and a backward positioned upper jaw.
  • Paranasal deficiency caused by a backward positioned upper jaw.
  • Missing teeth to be prostheticly restored after orthodontics and surgery are completed.
Pre-Op

Post-Op

PRE AND POST-SURGICAL ORTHODONTICS BY DR. JOHN ALBERTI.

SURGICAL TREATMENT PLAN

  • Advancement of the upper jaw with bone graft to correct underbite and paranasal deficiency associated with a backward positioned upper jaw.
  • Lower jaw autorotation
  • Lower jaw setback procedure to correct underbite and crossbite associated with forward positioned large lower jaw.
